Samuel Gomez served 4 honorable years in the United States Marine Corps between 2005-2009. After completing active service, he struggled to assimilate back into civilian life.
His struggle with depression began soon after leaving the military and the issue continued to worsen with time. He eventually went to the VA for medical help and was put on medication and month-to-month therapy. Unfortunately, the issue escalated, and his minor depression moved into major
depression. He suffered from all 9 major symptoms of depression such as deep sadness/emptiness, apathy, agitation, sleep disturbance, weight and appetite changes, lack of concentration, feelings of worthlessness, fatigue, and morbid thoughts. Even under constant medication and therapy for almost a decade.
In 2019 as he struggled with addictions and suicide he hit rock bottom. He decided to make drastic changes. Starting with returning to his faith as a Christian. With lifestyle changes, time, purpose, and intentionality he was able to reverse all 9 symptoms. Including getting off medication and breaking free from his addictions.
As of 2022, he is now a certified associate director for Dr. Nedley’s 8-week "Depression & Anxiety recovery program" as well as Nedley's 6-week "Optimize Your Brain" and is running an active program for his local church and the surrounding community.
Not only is he in the process of getting Our Honored Vets United up and running but is also writing a book that sheds light on his testimony of living with severe depression and successfully getting out.
Currently in the process of getting 501c3 Tax Exempt Status
